Bloodcurrants are quite easy to propagate. Either cut cuttings or lower a shoot. These forms of propagation give you plants with the same characteristics and flower colors as the mother plant.
How to propagate a bloodcurrant?
To propagate a bloodcurrant, cut cuttings from he althy shoots in summer or winter and plant them in potting soil or lower a shoot in late summer, cover it with soil and let cuttings grow in spring.

How to take cuttings for propagation
Summer cuttings are cut in July or August. Cut winter cuttings on a frost-free day in winter. Choose an annual shoot that is he althy and has good sap.
Cut it off the bush just below a bud. Divide it into several pieces about ten centimeters long, making a diagonal cut at the bottom and a straight cut at the top. Make sure there is at least one eye on each piece.
The lower end of the cuttings is inserted into the potting soil so that the eye is covered. Then press down the soil and carefully water the cutting with the spray of the watering can.
Lowering bloodcurrant
Like all berry bushes, you can easily propagate the bloodcurrant by lowering it. To do this, bend a he althy shoot to the ground in late summer.
Fix it with soil (€6.00 on Amazon) or small stones. Tent pegs or wire loops are also suitable for fastening. Cover the branch with soil. But make sure that the shoot tip remains free. Spray the surface with water.
Small offshoots have formed in the spring, which you can simply separate and plant in the desired location.
Cut or tie off shoots
An old gardener's trick recommends scratching the lowered shoot with a razor blade at intervals of around ten centimeters before covering it with soil. Alternatively, you can also wrap it with copper wire.
The plant sap accumulates in the scratched or tied area. This stimulates the shoot to form roots.
Tips & Tricks
If you propagate your bloodcurrant from cuttings, be careful not to damage the small pieces of shoots. Before planting, drill a hole in the ground with a thin pencil. Then you don't hurt the cutting when planting.
