The terms passion fruit and passion fruit are often used as synonyms in this country. Both terms refer to the fruits of the passion flower, although passion fruits, in contrast to the darker passion fruits, have a yellow peel.

When is passion fruit season?
The best season for passion fruit is early summer and summer, when the fruit is mainly imported from South America. However, they are also grown in South Africa, India and Hawaii, so they are available almost all year round.
The best season to eat a sun-ripened passion fruit
The passion fruit as a plant and fruit originally comes from the Brazilian rainforest on the Amazon. Nowadays, the majority of fresh passion fruit in local supermarkets comes from South America during the harvest season in early summer and summer. However, passion fruits are now increasingly grown for fresh consumption and juice production in the following countries;
- South Africa
- India
- Hawaii
Delicious refreshment on hot summer days
Passion fruits are not quite as common as a fruit for fresh consumption in this country as the darker colored passion fruits. But like these, they can simply be cut in half and spooned. The juice from ripe passion fruit doesn't taste quite as sweet as that pressed from passion fruit, but rather more sour and is therefore particularly refreshing on hot days.
Tips & Tricks
Ripe passion fruits should be as heavy as an egg in the hand. If they feel very light, they are usually already too dried out inside and are no longer fresh.
