When is the best time to plant lilies?
The ideal planting time for lily bulbs is in autumn or spring, while early young plants should be planted from March to May. Lily seeds should be sown in the fall or stored in the refrigerator and sown in the spring. Madonna lilies and Turk's-cuff lilies, on the other hand, are planted in late summer between the end of August and the end of September.
Planting lilies: The right time for bulbs, seeds and young plants
Lily bulbs should be planted in fall or spring. Pre-grown young plants from hardware stores, garden centers, etc. are best planted from March to May at the latest. Lily seeds should be sown in autumn. Alternatively, they can be stored in the refrigerator and sown in spring.
But there are two exceptions among lilies that should not be planted in spring or autumn. They are planted in late summer between late August and late September. These are:
- the Madonna Lily
- the Turkish lily
