Flowering time of the Japanese azalea depends on the variety
Like rhododendrons, azaleas bloom primarily in late spring, although the specific flowering times depend on the variety. Most Japanese azaleas bloom between April and May, with some even blooming into June. Incidentally, you can extend the flowering period if you remove dead flowers by breaking them off, especially on young plants. Be careful not to damage the soft shoots growing from it.
Tip
In order for Japanese azaleas to bloom profusely, they must be fertilized regularly. Start fertilizing at the beginning of the growing season – i.e. in March – and continue until October.
