If the boxwood turns yellow, there can be various reasons behind it. In many cases it is the result of a previous lack of water or nutrients; sometimes the roots can also be damaged. This is how you can quickly remedy the situation.
What are the causes of yellow leaves on boxwood?
Yellow leaves on boxwood can be caused by lack of water, waterlogging, lack of nutrients or root damage. Regular watering, good drainage, sufficient nutrient supply and protection from pests can help.
Water shortage
Box requires a lot of water and cannot cope with prolonged drought. Therefore, in hot and dry phases, make sure to water specimens planted in the garden regularly. However, if the boxwood is in a pot, it needs a little liquid from time to time, even in winter. So don't forget to water the potted plants overwintering on the balcony or terrace on frost-free days! Boxwoods in sunny, warm and sheltered locations are particularly at risk of drought damage.
Waterlogging
Just as the boxwood doesn't like dryness, it can cope even less with excess moisture and especially waterlogging. Prevent this by providing both garden and potted specimens with good drainage. The garden soil should be loose, permeable and humus-rich. In addition, do not water the box excessively and “by feel”, but check whether it is necessary with a simple finger test: Is the substrate orIf the soil is dry at a depth of a few centimeters, then fresh water is necessary. Nutrient Deficiency
