As easy as the elephant's foot is to care for, if it gets yellow leaves, you should take a closer look at the plant. Depending on which leaves are affected and how large the extent is, different causes come into question.
Why does my elephant foot have yellow leaves?
Yellow leaves on elephant foot can be normal if there are only a few lower leaves. If there is increased loss of leaves in the upper area, the causes can be overfertilization, lack of light or overwintering that is too warm. In such cases, adjustment of care is necessary.
If the lower leaves are mainly affected and only a small number are affected, then you shouldn't worry too much. Every now and then an evergreen plant needs to renew itself.
However, yellow or brown leaves in the upper part of the plant are not “normal”. Over-fertilization could be the reason for this. Overwintering that is too warm or a lack of light are also conceivable causes.
The most important things in brief:
- yellow or brown leaves are minor and normal in the lower area
- excessive loss requires treatment
- Possible causes: over-fertilization, lack of light, warm wintering
Tip
You shouldn't worry about individual yellow leaves.
