Violets are hardly noticeable outside of their flowering period. Their leaves attract little attention. On the other hand, their violet flowers provide accents on lush green lawns, on the edge of trees or on the partially shaded forest floor. But when exactly do violets bloom?
When are violets blooming?
The flowering times of the most important violet species vary: scented violets (March-April), horned violets (May-September), garden pansies (April-October), forest violets (April-May), swamp violets (April- June), Parma violets (March-May), Pentecost violets (May-June), bog violets (May-June) and wild pansy (May-September).

There is not just one violet. More than 500 species of the violet family are referred to as violets. But the most famous is probably the fragrant violet. It has an extremely intoxicating scent and blooms from March to April
But it's not just the fragrant violet that is important to gardeners. Here are other types of violets:

Flowering time – best time to collect the medicinal violet
The collection season begins with the flowering period of Viola. When the edible violets are in bloom, the content of active ingredients is highest. Flowers as well as leaves and roots can be harvested. They work among others:
- antibacterial
- hemostatic
- pain relieving
- calming
- cooling
Cut off faded flowers after flowering or sow them yourself
In terms of care for some species, it is advisable to shorten them after flowering. This stimulates a second flowering in horned violets, for example. It also promotes bushier growth. But if you want to sow yourself, you should leave the withered flowers on the stems.

Violets are also popular as cut flowers for vases. Some species emit their scent throughout the apartment. But remember: violets don't last long in the vase.
