The so-called magnificent spruce (Liatris spicata) is rightly named, after all, the colorful inflorescences with their nectar also attract numerous pretty butterflies during the flowering period. Since it can be grown by even inexperienced gardeners with little maintenance, the Prachtscharte is a grateful addition to the perennial bed.
Which location does the Prachtscharte prefer?
The ideal location for a magnificent spruce (Liatris spicata) is sunny to full sun, warm, protected from the wind, with humus-rich, nutrient-rich and permeable soil without the risk of waterlogging. A spot next to a south or southwest facing wall is particularly suitable.
Lay the foundation for abundance of flowers with a well-chosen location
The spruce tree grows naturally in North America in warm, sun-drenched landscapes with humus-rich soil. When planting in the garden, the chosen location should be as follows:
- sunny to full sun
- warm and as sheltered from the wind as possible
- humous, nutrient-rich soil
- permeable soil without the risk of waterlogging
In summer, the Prachtscharte also tolerates periods of short drought. However, it does not tolerate very heavy, compacted soils with a tendency to waterlogging. When cultivating in a pot, you should also pay attention to choosing the right planting substrate (€32.00 on Amazon).
Tip
The heat-loving glossy cleft thrives particularly well in places protected from the wind next to house or natural stone walls facing south, southeast or southwest.
