Which location criteria are important for walnut trees?
The ideal location for a walnut tree offers plenty of open space, sun, winter protection and deep, loamy soil. A minimum distance of five meters from buildings and fences must be observed to ensure optimal growth.
Free space please
A walnut tree wants to be as free and airy as possible. If this is not the case, it will thrive with delay or not at all.
In general, when planting, you should keep in mind that a walnut can reach a height of 15 or even more meters. Of course, a large area must be available for this, both upwards, in width and in depth.
Important: Do not place your walnut tree too close to neighbors' houses or fences. A minimum distance of five meters is advisable.
Sun and winter protection
A walnut tree needs a lot of sun - and protection in the cool season. Walnuts are very sensitive to frost and can freeze quickly under certain circumstances. Choose a south-facing location!
Deep Soil
When it comes to substrate, the walnut tree is at least a little less demanding. However, it feels most comfortable in deep, loamy soil. Clay soil is also an option. Loose, nutrient- and lime-rich substrate works wonderfully.
