The dwarf palm is hardy down to -10 °C. However, you should not challenge their frost hardiness. If it is in a pot, protection is urgently needed so that its roots do not freeze. How does wintering work?
How can I overwinter my dwarf palm?
To overwinter a dwarf palm successfully, protect it outdoors with bubble wrap or fleece and place it on wood or Styrofoam. Indoors it should be kept in a bright, cool location, watered sparingly and not fertilized.
Procedures for overwintering outdoors
If your dwarf palm is in a pot and should stay outside in winter, choose a place where it is protected from rain and wind. Wrap the planter with bubble wrap (€14.00 on Amazon) or fleece. Place the container on wood or Styrofoam so that the root ball cannot freeze through from below.
Wintering in the house
Dwarf palms can also be overwintered indoors:
- z. B. in the winter garden, living room, hallway
- the warmer, the brighter the location must be
- do not fertilize
- water sparingly
- put outside again from April/May (if desired)
Tip
When overwintering at home, you should regularly check the dwarf palm for pest infestation.
