A nice gap filler, that's it, the stone herb. It blooms all summer long if you leave it and cut off its old flowers regularly. You can multiply it easily and quickly by sowing!

How and when to sow alyssum?
Stonewort can be grown at home from March or sown outdoors from April. Distribute the fine seeds on sowing soil, cover them lightly and keep the soil moist. Germination occurs at 15-20 °C within 7-10 days. After the Ice Saints, the young plants can be planted in a sunny location.
At home from March, outdoors from April
You can start sowing in a targeted manner from March onwards. Then the seeds can be grown at home. The young plants should not be planted out before mid-May. If you are afraid of pre-cultivation, you can alternatively start direct sowing outdoors from April.
Buy the seeds or harvest them yourself
Let's be honest: Anyone can buy stoneweed seeds. It's much more fun to harvest the seeds from your own existing plants. The prerequisite for this is that you harvest the seeds in late summer or autumn. They are very fine, small and roundish-flat. You can also cut off the seed heads and collect the seeds at home.
Starting the sowing
Fill small pots or a bowl with sowing soil (€6.00 at Amazon). You should plan several seeds per pot. This is how it works:
- Lightly cover seeds with soil and press down
- spray with a sprayer
- in a bright place e.g. B. place on the windowsill in the living room
Germination occurs at 15 °C (18 to 20 °C is ideal). You can also place the seed containers on the balcony or terrace, as long as it is frost-free there. Attention: Remember to check daily whether the substrate is moist.
The seeds germinate after 7 to 10 days. With good care, the young plants can be pricked out later. But not too much of a good thing! When several plants are together in one place, denser clumps form.
Plant in a sunny location
When pre-cultivated, the stone herb plants are planted in a sunny location after the ice saints. If necessary, partially shaded locations are also suitable. It is important that the soil is permeable and humus-rich.
Tip
Alyssum often seeds itself (self-sowing). You don't have to do anything except cut off all the wilted flowers so that the seeds can form.
