Ground cover roses, which are also known as small shrub roses and surface roses, are robust, easy to plant, long-lasting and extremely blooming. But what distance should you keep in mind between the plants?
What distance should you keep for ground cover roses?
The ideal planting distance for ground cover roses is 40 to 80 cm, depending on the variety. For bushy-growing and flat-lying varieties, at least 40 cm is recommended. 2 to 5 plants should be planted per square meter and 2 plants per linear meter.
Planting distance depending on variety
The planting distance should be measured depending on the variety. Basically, there are these recommendations from experienced gardeners:
- Planting distance: 40 to 80 cm
- Plants per square meter: 2 to 5 pieces
- Plants per linear meter: 2 pieces
Bushy growing varieties need a distance of at least 40 cm between each other. Flat-lying varieties as well. If you plant arched, overhanging varieties, the planting distance should be based on the height of the rose in question.
Tip
The greater the distance between the plants, the more care in terms of weeding will be necessary later. But the smaller the distances, the more problematic it becomes to cut the plants. Find the middle ground!
