Whether in the rose bed or in the pot on the terrace - this rose ensures a brilliant appearance. You can recognize them from afar with their red and white colored and large flowers. The flowers are suitable for cutting in vases. But are there other reasons to cut this rose?
How should you cut the Rose Nostalgia?
The Rose Nostalgia should be cut down to around 20 cm in spring (between mid-February and early March). Completely remove old, dried or weak shoots and regularly deadhead dead flowers. Sick shoots can be removed or left as the rose can recover on its own.
Cut down radically in spring
Like all other noble roses, this specimen should be cut in spring:
- between mid-February and early March
- Clean rose scissors and sharpen if necessary
- cut all shoots down to around 20 cm
- leave a maximum of 40 cm of shoots
- cutting too lightly results in weaker growth
- completely remove old, dried, frozen, weak shoots
Dehead wilted flowers
It sounds worse than it is: The wilted flowers of the Rose Nostalgia should be beheaded regularly. To do this, use rose scissors to cut directly below the top rose petal. The result is that new flowers can constantly form and the flowering period lasts longer.
Do diseased shoots have to be removed?
Fungal diseases can mean the imminent end of many roses. It's completely different with Rose Nostalgia. If it is ever attacked by a disease such as leaf spot, rose rust, powdery mildew or star sooty mildew - you don't need to worry.
The diseased shoots do not have to be cut off as quickly as possible with rose scissors in order to save the plant. It recovers on its own. So leave the diseased shoots or cut them off if you think they spoil the look.
Win cut flowers – they last a long time in the vase
You can cut off freshly bloomed flowers to put them in a vase. They last a good week with regular water changes. However, cutting the flowers is less recommended for tall stems or plants in pots. They then no longer look so attractive in the overall picture.
Tip
A maximum of 1/4 of all shoots should be older than two years. Otherwise this rose will no longer bloom profusely.
