How can you properly overwinter a garden amaryllis?
In order to overwinter a garden amaryllis successfully, it should be dug up in time before the first frost and the fallen leaves cut off. Store the tubers in cool temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, dark, airy and dry until next spring.
Relocate to winter quarters in good time – this is how it works
If the first frost is at the garden door, dig up the flower bulb and cut off the drawn leaves. Until planting time next spring, the garden amaryllis will remain in an area with these basic conditions:
- Cool temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius
- Dark, airy and dry
- Spread the tubers on a rule so that the peels do not touch each other
In the bucket you save your Crinum the stress of digging out. If space allows, move the pot and the flower bulbs to the recommended winter quarters. If the hook lily overwinters in the substrate, water it every now and then so that it does not dry out completely.
