Hemp palms are robust and undemanding. The demands on the plant substrate are not very high. For older plants, normal garden soil is sufficient. You can get soil for younger hemp palms at the hardware store. But you can also easily mix them together yourself.

Which soil is suitable for hemp palms?

Moderately acidic, well-drained soil that is not too nutrient-rich is suitable for the hemp palm. A mixture of garden soil, peat, compost, gravel, sand and lava granules ensures the right consistency. Special palm soil is not necessary.

Hemp palms are not demanding

The hemp palm likes moderately acidic, well-drained soil. The soil should not be too nutrient-rich.

Normal garden soil is sufficient for older plants in the garden. For younger hemp palms or potted plants, simply put together the soil yourself:

  • Garden soil
  • Peat
  • Compost
  • gravel
  • Sand
  • lava granules

It is ideal if the soil for the hemp palm is composed of equal parts compost and clay-containing garden soil. Gravel, sand and peat ensure that the substrate remains nice and loose and irrigation and rain water can drain off easily.

Tip

Special palm soil, as offered in garden stores, is not necessary for the hemp palm. It is expensive and usually contains too many nutrients.
