Especially now, when the days are getting shorter and the evenings are getting a little cooler, dancing flames and cozy warmth are also in demand in the garden and offer an exciting spectacle after work is done. You have finally received enough inspiration from us for physical activities for the next few days and weeks and so it is now time for the well-deserved evening coziness.
Which fire pits are suitable for the garden?
Various types of fire pits are suitable for the garden: brick fire pits, camp or Swedish fires, metal fire pits (bowls, baskets, columns), fire pits for grilling and gas fireplaces. Pay attention to safety, building regulations and appropriate fuel materials.
If there is enough space in the garden, there are a variety of attractive design options available for the fireplace that flickers in the evening. Small or a little larger, mobile to transport from A to B, or bricked in a fixed location and with glass, metal or natural stone as the base material - you have a wide selection of cozy oases of peace in the countryside.
What you should pay attention to when planning
A look at the municipal regulations helps to avoid later trouble, because it specifies what, when and at what time of year can be burned outdoors. By the way, using garden waste or the last hedge trimmings as fuel for a garden fire is strictly forbidden in most federal states. If the fire department suddenly shows up at the garden gate because of this and completely uncalled, the romantic evening after work can be very expensive.
What is the safest way to light a fire in the garden?
When it comes to good combustibility and low smoke production, untreated and dry beech wood is the first choice. The flame flickers less calmly with the wood of coniferous trees, which are also more prone to dangerous sparks due to the relatively high resin content. Alcohol and gasoline are of course taboo when lighting a fire, in the interests of your children's safety. And finally, even with the utmost caution, a bucket or filled watering can is always good to have nearby in an emergency.
Where is the right place for the garden fire?
Paved areas or areas filled with gravel are best suited as a location for garden stoves, fire bowls or brick fireplaces. When planning, you should not forget about the space required for seating or tables that are as sheltered from the wind as possible. And finally: Fireplaces with cables or pipes running under them are not necessarily ideal, at least not for the solid brick barbecue oven. The optimal and safest place depends primarily on the design of your new fireplace. The following variants are particularly popular with garden and property owners:
- brick fireplaces
- Camp or Swedish fire
- Metal fire pits (bowls, baskets or columns)
- Fire pits for grilling
- Gas fireplaces
With the exception of our example below, do-it-yourselfers who are somewhat technically savvy can produce all of their ideas relatively easily on their own, even without the need for a huge amount of time-consuming use of materials. You can look forward to a particularly successful example of this in our next newsletter.
