Exercise has been proven to help increase the ability to concentrate. Juggling is particularly important because throwing and catching improves blood flow to the body and brain. Both hemispheres of the brain have to perform at high levels, body awareness is improved and it's also a lot of fun. You can easily make juggling balls yourself together with your children and get started right away. We'll tell you how it works.
How can you make your own juggling balls?
To make juggling balls yourself, you can either fill balloons with grainy content such as lentils or rice and place several layers of balloons on top of each other, or sew individual juggling balls out of fabric or soft (artificial) leather and fill them with grainy material.
What should good juggling balls for beginners be like?
With juggling balls it is important that they:
- Have a pleasant weight and good grip.
- Do not break even if they are frequently dropped on the floor.
- Don't roll away.
- Beautifully colorful.
Variant 1: Balloons filled with granular content
Material:
- Round balloons (€12.00 at Amazon) in different colors
- Funnel
- Scissors
- empty bottle
- grainy filling material, e.g. lentils, rice, coarse s alt, teriyaki noodles
Instructions:
- First let the filling material trickle through the funnel into the bottle.
- Inflate a balloon and place it over the neck of the bottle.
- Turn the bottle over so that the filling falls into the balloon.
- Remove balloon.
- Cut off the necks of two to three more balloons and put the round part of the balloon over the already filled one so that the opening is closed.
Sewing juggling balls from fabric
These balls are more durable than the first variant. You can also let your creativity run wild and make the balls in your favorite colors, coordinated with your outfit or made from imaginatively patterned material.
Material:
- Fabric or soft (artificial) leather
- granular filler
- small funnel
- Sewing utensils (needle, thread, scissors, possibly sewing machine)
- Sewing pattern (available for download on the internet)
Instructions:
- Cut the pattern pieces.
- Sew the ball together according to the instructions. Work very precisely, otherwise the ball will not converge in one point.
- Sew the threads well so that nothing comes loose.
- Join all pieces together, but leave the last seam open.
- Turn the ball.
- Use the funnel to fill in the filling material through the turning opening.
- Close opening with mattress stitch.
Tip
If you don't have any balloons on hand, you can fill old sneaker socks with granular material. Turn the sock around itself two to three times in the middle and put the second half of the sock over the resulting ball. The upcycling juggling ball is ready.
