The linden tree comes from South Africa, but it still doesn't like great heat. In addition, it does not tolerate direct sunlight or dry heated air well, but it does need a lot of light. Accordingly, it should spend the winter in a cool, bright place.
How should the linden tree overwinter in winter?
To overwinter the indoor linden tree in winter, place it in a cool (5 °C to 10 °C) and bright place, such as in the stairwell or basement. The amount of water should be reduced slowly and watered only slightly in winter. Fertilization is not necessary during this time.
Temperatures between 5 °C and 10 °C, such as those found in a stairwell or in the basement, are ideal. However, the linden tree should get enough light there, otherwise it will lose its leaves. In winter the plant requires very little water and should not be fertilized. Do not reduce the amount of water suddenly, but slowly.
The most important things in brief:
- ideal temperature for wintering: approx. 5 °C to 10 °C
- water only a little in winter
- Reduce the watering amount slowly
- do not fertilize
Tip
The ideal winter quarters for the linden tree are cool and bright with humidity that is not too low. A bright basement room or the equally bright stairwell are definitely suitable places.
