The golden fruit palm can be propagated by seeds or cuttings. Propagating from seeds requires patience and optimal conditions. Palm trees grown from cuttings are quicker and easier to propagate and require ground shoots that are at least 30 cm tall. Suitable soil mixture and site conditions are important for the palm to thrive.

Propagate a golden fruit palm from seeds is not easy. You also need a lot of patience until a real Areca palm grows from a seed. Above all, the temperatures and lighting conditions must be taken into account.

The seeds of the golden fruit palm are sown in spring. The temperatures must be at least 18 degrees for the seeds to germinate.
Growing new golden fruit palms from cuttings
Propagate a golden fruit palm from cuttings is much easier and doesn't take nearly as long. You need a mother plant that has already formed ground shoots. These ground shoots must be at least 30 centimeters high and already have a few roots.
Cut off the ground shoots in spring and place them in prepared pots. Wrap the cuttings in cling film to ensure even soil moisture. You should ventilate the film once a day to avoid mold formation.
Place the cuttings in a bright, warm location for four to six weeks. But avoid direct sunlight. As soon as new fronds form, you know that the propagation of the golden fruit palm has worked because new roots have then developed. The palm tree that has been propagated in this way is now cared for like an adult plant.
The right soil mixture for golden fruit palms
Either place the cuttings in special palm soil (€29.00 on Amazon) or make your own mixture of compost soil, sand and gravel. The plant substrate should only be slightly acidic. A pH value of six is ideal.
Tip
The golden fruit palm owes its name to the fruits, which are actually colored golden yellow. However, the Areca palm only develops flowers and fruits under very favorable climatic conditions. In our latitudes it is too cool and too dark for that.
