How to successfully propagate Rhipsalis?
To propagate rhipsalis, cuttings or seeds can be used. Take 10-15 cm long cuttings from a he althy mother plant and allow them to dry for a few days before planting them in nursery pots. Seed germination requires moist and warm conditions in a seed tray.
Two methods for propagating rhipsalis
The hobby gardener has two methods available to propagate rhipsalis: cutting cuttings and sowing seeds.
Propagation from cuttings is practiced much more often because it is uncomplicated and almost always successful. The offshoots also grow very quickly, so you will soon see success.
To propagate rhipsalis from seeds, you need germinable seeds, which are difficult to obtain.
Growing rhipsalis from cuttings
In order to grow rhipsalis from cuttings, you need a he althy mother plant. Their shoots must be at least 10, preferably 15 cm long. The best time to take cuttings is early spring.
- Cut 10 – 15 cm long cuttings

How to sow Rhipsalis
Prepare a seed tray with cocohum or other growing material. Spread the seed thinly and leave it uncovered.
Place the bowls in a bright, not directly sunny place. The temperatures must be at least 20 degrees.
To ensure constant humidity, it is best to grow the seedlings in an indoor greenhouse (€29.00 on Amazon) or cover the growing trays with foil.
Tip
Rhipsalis is not poisonous, although this is sometimes claimed. This is probably because this type of cactus is often confused with the poisonous spurge family.
