Why isn't my Cymbidium orchid blooming?
A Cymbidium orchid will not bloom if the required temperature differences between day and night are missing. Ensure 20 degrees during the day and 12 degrees at night, starting in late summer. In addition, there should be a humidity of at least 60 percent at the location.
Why doesn't the cymbidium bloom?
Cymbidium produces its flower shoots in autumn and winter. The orchid then blooms for several weeks.
But it can only develop the flower shoots if you create conditions at the location that are similar to those at the place where the orchid comes from. It is significantly colder there at night than during the day and the humidity is sufficiently high.
The fact that a cymbidium does not bloom is because the orchid in this country is kept at constant temperatures day and night. However, larger temperature differences are absolutely necessary for the plant to form flowers. Since the cymbidium is not hardy, you cannot simply leave the orchid outside to allow for a natural temperature change.
The right location with suitable temperatures

To ensure ideal temperatures at the site, start lowering night temperatures in late summer. During the day they should be around 20 degrees, at night it shouldn't be warmer than 12 degrees.
Since orchids generally don't like being moved around often, you should look for a place where there are different day and night temperatures. This is usually very difficult to achieve in the living room. A favorable place is therefore a winter garden or greenhouse that is not heated, at least at night.
In addition, the humidity at the location must be above 60 percent if possible. If necessary, place bowls of water near the cymbidium. By increasing the humidity, you also prevent pest infestation.
Formation of the flower shoot
Once the cymbidium has developed a flowering shoot, the temperature changes between day and night are no longer necessary. The orchid should not be kept too warm now.

A cymbidium can be propagated relatively easily by dividing. However, the plant must be large enough so that it is not weakened too much.
