A gifted or newly purchased Cambria orchid holds court on your windowsill with magnificent blooms. At the end of the furious flowering period, the multi-genus hybrid usually rests a little to prepare for another flower show. If this is not the case, you do not have to just accept the shortcoming. With these measures you can get a Cambria orchid to bloom again.
Why isn't my Cambria orchid blooming?
If a Cambria orchid is not blooming, it may be due to a lack of temperature fluctuations or low humidity. Optimize the conditions by keeping the orchid warm during the day and cooler at night and increasing the humidity.
Temperature fluctuations stimulate the flowering - this is how it works
During its growth and flowering period, a Cambria orchid feels comfortable in a bright location with temperatures between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. If the plant remains at normal room temperatures at the end of the flowering period, the next flower will usually not occur. In order to encourage the unwilling tropical plant to produce another flowering spectacle, it should be exposed to fluctuating temperatures. How to do it right:
- Place a non-flowering cambria overnight in a location with 12 to 15 degrees Celsius
- During the day, maintain your usual, bright place at normal room temperature
- Ideally place on the sunny balcony between the end of May and the beginning of September
As long as the mercury column does not fall below 10 degrees Celsius and does not exceed 25 degrees during the day, fluctuations in this range have a beneficial effect on the willingness to flower.
Increased humidity attracts the flowers
All orchids find low humidity to be unfavorable and, to be on the safe side, hold back the flowers. In this regard, the Cambria orchid is no exception. If the proud flower does not bloom despite experiencing the recommended temperature fluctuations, the air is too dry for it. To remedy the defect, these options are available:
- In winter, place bowls filled with water on the radiators
- Place a humidifier (€59.00 on Amazon) in close proximity to the Cambria orchid
- Spray the leaves and aerial roots daily with soft water
On the other hand, water the listless orchid less, as increased humidity causes the substrate to dry out more slowly. Only when the next flowering season begins will the plant be watered or dipped more frequently again.

A Cambria orchid is not only easy to care for. Most hybrids in this group of varieties are also very easy to propagate by division. To do this, pot up the orchid and divide it into segments with a bulb and at least 3 aerial roots.
