Felling down a tree and then pulling the tree roots out of the ground is a very strenuous task. With large trees you won't get very far without a milling machine or mini excavator. For smaller trees, it is worth trying to remove the tree root with a pulley. This is how it's done!
How do I remove a tree root with a pulley?
To remove a tree root with a pulley, first dig up the root with a spade and axe. Then attach sturdy tension straps to a solid object and around the tree root and connect the tension straps with a hand rope pull. Slowly tighten the tension to release the root.
What you need for pulley removal
- Spade
- Axe
- 2 sturdy tension straps
- Hand rope pull
There must also be a very solid object within easy reach to which you can attach a tension strap. A thicker tree is best suited for this. It must be able to withstand the tension of the belt, which can be considerable.
Digging up tree roots
First, a spade and ax are used. Dig up the tree root as much as possible. Try to loosen them a little.
Thicker roots are cut off with an ax while digging.
Put on tension straps
A tension strap is attached to the nearby tree or other object. Place the second tension strap around the tree root. Make sure it is really secure and cannot slip.
Connect tension straps with cable pull
The cable pull is first extended. Instructions are included with the device. The tension straps are then pulled until they can be connected to the cable pull. They are inserted into the carabiner hooks on the cable pull and secured.
The lever continuously increases the tension until the tree root moves out of the ground. If necessary, you may have to help with a spade and an axe. Above all, you should always cut roots.
The more tension you can build, the faster the tree root should come out of the ground.
Be safe
Removing a tree root with a pulley is not without risk. Make sure that the tension straps cannot slip under any circumstances. The force behind the tension can lead to life-threatening injuries.
Basically, you should always carry out such work with support.
Tip
Before cutting down a tree, find out whether there are any specific regulations in your community. Larger trees in particular may not be felled without permission.
