An old aquarium doesn't have to be empty. Instead, you can plant it attractively. Below you will find out which plants are suitable for the aquarium and how you can plant your aquarium step by step - without water.
How do you plant an aquarium without water?
To plant an aquarium without water, you need gravel, succulent soil, succulents, pebbles and decorative elements. Clean the aquarium, fill in a drainage layer, spread the soil, arrange and plant the succulents, and decorate with stones and other elements.
The plant landscape in the aquarium
The aquarium is ideal not only to be used as a plant pot, but also to create a real plant landscape in it. It's best to choose small, drought-loving plants such as succulents and cacti and use them to create a kind of green sandy desert.
Planting the aquarium without water step by step
For planting you need:
- Gravel or drainage concrete (€19.00 on Amazon)
- Special soil for succulents or garden soil and some sand
- beautiful pebbles
- Succulents
- natural decorative elements such as roots, stones (boulders from the garden), shells
- alternatively: artificial decorations such as small figures, houses etc.
Then proceed as follows:
- Clean your aquarium thoroughly.
- Place it in the final location so you don't have to move it with the weight of the earth. Remember that your plants need light!
- Place a layer of gravel or drainage concrete (€19.00 on Amazon) as the bottom layer in the aquarium.
- Mix soil and sand and distribute this mixture in the aquarium. Add small hollows and hills to create the feeling of a mini landscape.
- Distribute your succulents. Pay attention to the landscape effect here too. A larger succulent can represent a tree on a hill, for example, while flat-growing ones can represent the grassy landscape.
- Once all the succulents have been planted, place pebbles on the exposed soil.
- Finally, place your decorative elements.
Tip
You can also place your succulents next to larger stones so that they grow over them over time and create the impression of overgrown mountains.
