The he althy growth of a tree depends on many factors. The planting time, for example, has a significant influence on rooting and subsequent growth behavior, which lies in different seasons depending on the tree species and its root system.
When is the optimal planting time for trees?
When is the best time to plant different trees? Deciduous trees should be planted during the winter rest period between leaf fall and April. Evergreen deciduous trees prefer the period between August and October. Conifers are ideal to plant in spring or autumn.
When is the best time to plant which tree
When planting a tree, however, it is important not just to keep an eye on the calendar: sudden cold snaps in autumn or a heat wave in spring may make it necessary to postpone the project. Generally, planting should be done on a day with mild weather and cloudy skies.
Container trees
Trees grown in containers can generally be planted all year round as they are not affected by plant shock to the same extent as baled or bare root trees. Planting is only not possible if the ground is frozen. Bare-rooted trees, on the other hand, should preferably be planted outside the growing season.
Deciduous trees
Basically, deciduous trees are planted during the winter rest phase, which begins when the leaves fall and lasts until around April. Autumn planting is preferable if possible, as long as the tree species are hardy. More sensitive trees, on the other hand, only come into the ground in spring.
Evergreen deciduous trees
However, evergreen deciduous trees come into the garden much earlier. The ideal planting time here is between the end of August and the end of October, as long as it is not too hot and dry. Planting in winter or spring is also possible, provided the temperatures are more than minus five degrees Celsius.
Conifers
Coniferous trees are best planted between the beginning of September and the end of October and from the beginning of March to the end of April. Spring planting is usually preferable to avoid frost and drought damage.
Tip
Just as you shouldn't plant in frost, trees shouldn't be cut in temperatures below zero.
