What fertilizer does wisteria need?
Wisteria requires a fertilizer with a low nitrogen content. Mature compost is ideal, applied in a thin layer or carefully worked into the soil. Avoid chicken manure and only use ready-made fertilizers with low nitrogen contents.
Do I have to fertilize wisteria all year round?
In winter, your wisteria does not need fertilizer, like most other plants. It is best to stop fertilizing after the second flowering in late summer. Finally, the plant no longer needs to sprout. Don't start regular fertilization again until next spring, some time before flowering.
Which fertilizer is best for wisteria?
Before you use fertilizer, you should know what the wisteria needs. In addition to a good supply of nutrients, a location with lots of light is also important. If you use a special long-term fertilizer (€10.00 on Amazon), then follow the dosage instructions on the package leaflet. It does not need to be administered as frequently as a commercially available liquid fertilizer.
Be sure to pay attention to the nitrogen content of the fertilizer used. It should be as low as possible. Well-rotted compost, which you apply in a thin layer or carefully work into the soil, is ideal for fertilizing a wisteria. However, you should be careful with stable manure because chicken manure contains too much nitrogen. This allows your wisteria to grow quickly and produce lots of leaves, but it often doesn't bloom.
Does my wisteria sometimes need special fertilizer?
Immediately when planting, you can add a little lime to the wisteria in the planting pit. This way it will take root more quickly. Do not add any more lime later, it could do more harm than good. To promote the flowering of your wisteria, you can give it some superphosphate once in April.
