Do you want to grow a sweet potato in your own garden, but are unsure about the site conditions? Don't worry, this article will enlighten you.
Which location is suitable for growing sweet potatoes?
Sweet potatoes prefer a sunny, south-facing location with well-drained, normal potting soil. However, some varieties require partial shade. You can place the plants creatively in your garden, e.g. on railings, as a foliage wall or in hanging baskets.
Sweet potatoes need light
The sweet potato originally comes from warm tropical regions and therefore needs a lot of light and, above all, warmth to thrive. A south-facing location is therefore recommended.
Note exceptions
However, there are also some varieties whose leaves burn in direct sunlight. You have to place these in partial shade.
Soil requirements
Sweet potatoes grow in normal potting soil (€10.00 at Amazon). This should be permeable so that waterlogging does not form.
