How tall does Miscanthus grow?

Miscanthus can reach different heights depending on the variety: dwarf miscanthus grows to around 1 meter high, while the giant miscanthus Miscanthus giganteus can grow up to 3-4 meters. Most varieties are between 1.5 and 2.5 meters tall.

How tall can miscanthus grow?

The relatively well-known giant miscanthus (bot. Miscanthus giganteus) often grows to three meters high, and in an ideal location even up to four meters. What is interesting is not only the final size, but also the speed of growth. The daily increase is up to five centimeters.

Most types of miscanthus reach a height of between one and a half and two to two and a half meters. This makes it clear that these ornamental grasses require a significant amount of space. You should keep this in mind when buying or planting the reeds. The large species are ideal as solitary plants, smaller ones can also be combined well. You can even create a hedge with miscanthus.

Are there also small varieties of miscanthus?

There are also smaller varieties of miscanthus, although “small” is relative here. The dwarf Miscanthus, probably the smallest variant, still reaches a height of around one meter. This miscanthus scores with its joy of flowering. It fits perfectly into a smaller garden and can also be used as a privacy screen on the balcony.

Tip

“Small” is relative when it comes to Miscanthus, even the smallest varieties grow at least one meter high.
