Which place does the Pennisetum like?
The ornamental grass needs a lot of light and a protected location to grow strong and he althy. The heat-loving plant feels comfortable in the blazing sun. The feather bristle grass is almost completely hardy in our latitudes. Nevertheless, it is recommended to place the Pennisetum grass in front of a protective wall if possible, which stores the heat and releases it into the environment at night.
Pennisetum, however, is undemanding when it comes to soil. Nutrient-rich, permeable garden soil is optimal. Since the ornamental grass is very sensitive to waterlogging, you should loosen heavy, compacted soil with sand or gravel before planting. An additional drainage layer is also advisable.
Tip
Make sure the substrate is always moist. Young plants tolerate dry soil poorly and may need to be supplied with water daily. Slightly older specimens, whose roots extend further into the ground, cope better with temporary drought.
