How to get rid of a marten in the wall?

To drive away a marten in the wall, use smells (citrus oils, mothballs), light signals, noise (radio, ultrasound) and high-voltage devices. Combine these measures and maintain them for at least six weeks.

Detecting martens in the wall

Martens make noise: rumbling, rumbling and scratching are among the most common noises heard. But they also cause other damage:

  • They scratch and bite holes in walls and leave scratch marks on walls and entrances.
  • They bite through insulation material.
  • They leave poop behind.
  • Sometimes they leave traces.

Repel martens in the wall

If you have a marten in your wall, you should react quickly before stealing insulation material or settling at home. The sooner you make the marten uncomfortable, the more likely it is to look for another hiding place.

The following (home) remedies spoil the marten's stay:

  • Smells such as citrus oils, toilet stones, mothballs, cat or dog hair
  • Light signals
  • Noise e.g. from a radio (€14.00 on Amazon) or an ultrasound machine
  • High voltage devices

In order to successfully drive away the marten, you should combine various measures and maintain them over a period of at least six weeks. Odorants should be renewed regularly.

Catch martens

Alternatively, you can also catch the marten using a live trap. However, this is more expensive and complicated than simply keeping him away. You also have to pay attention to the martens' closed season.

Tip

You must not kill the marten under any circumstances! Even if it is not protected, it is still subject to hunting law and therefore may not be killed by laypeople.
