Broad beans do not need to be pinched out as they do not form any side shoots. They use their energy exclusively to grow leaves, flowers and fruits, which should not be removed.
What does “maxing out” mean?
The term “pinching out” means that unnecessaryside shoots are removed manually. You may have already heard the term in connection with tomatoes. Tomato plants must be pruned regularly, i.e. the side shoots growing in the leaf and shoot axes must be removed. The shoots should be removed as early as possible and can simply be clipped off with your fingernail. The aim is that the plant does not put energy into the growth of unnecessary shoots and instead into the formation of the fruits.

Broad beans, like all other types of beans, must benot pinched out, as they do not form any side shoots. Only the leaves, flowers and later the fruits grow from the main stem and should not be removed.
