How do you properly divide a lady's mantle?
To divide lady's mantle successfully, lift the plant in spring or autumn, remove excess soil, divide the roots with a sharp knife and plant the sections in a sunny to semi-shaded location with humus, loamy and nutrient-rich soil.
When is the best time?
It's more of a period of time. This is in spring between mid-February and March. It is important that the division is carried out before the plant sprouts or when it is in its dormant period. Alternatively, the lady's mantle can be divided after it has bloomed in autumn.

Preparing the Lady's Mantle
The plant to be divided is dug up with a shovel or spade. Do this liberally so that the plant is not injured. Then remove the excess soil by shaking the plant slightly and carefully crumbling the soil with your hands. The roots should be clearly visible at the end.
Get the knife: Now it’s time to share
A spade should not be used to divide lady's mantle as with other plants. The reason: Lady's mantle has sensitive fine roots that should not be damaged. If you have the opportunity, take a sharp knife. Clean it beforehand, for example by disinfecting it. Divide the root system of the mother plant once.
Finding a place for the new plant
Before the mother plant and the new plant come into place, it is advisable to briefly soak their roots in water such as in a rain barrel or in a bucket of water. Then the mother plant comes back to its place.
The newly acquired plant should be planted in a sunny to partially shaded location. The soil there should have the following characteristics:
- humos
- loamy
- nutrient-rich
- slightly acidic to neutral
- permeable
