Some time after flowering, before the indoor calla goes dormant, the leaves turn yellow. This is completely normal and is part of the plant's natural life cycle. It's different if the leaves turn yellow or brown beforehand.
Why does my calla lily have yellow leaves?
Yellow leaves on a calla lily can occur due to the natural life cycle after flowering. Care errors such as incorrect location, insufficient moisture, nutrient-poor substrate or a viral disease can also cause yellow or brown leaves. Check and correct these points if necessary.
Leaves turn yellow and shrink
On almost all bulbous plants you can observe that the leaves turn yellow and shrink after flowering. This is a natural process through which the calla flower bulb gathers strength for the next flowering period.
If the leaves turn yellow or brown beforehand, there are almost always care errors:
- Location too sunny or too dark
- Too little moisture during the flowering period
- Substrate not nutrient-rich enough
- Virus disease caused by contaminated soil
Tips & Tricks
Use a clean, sharp knife to cut diseased leaves. Then clean it thoroughly so that you don't infect other plants.
