The red coneflower (Echinacea) blooms from July to September, the yellow coneflower (Rudbeckia) even until October. In contrast, the prairie coneflower, which belongs to the genus Echinacea, has a very short flowering period from July to August.
When is the flowering time of the coneflower?
The flowering period of the coneflower varies depending on the species: Prairie coneflower blooms in July and August, red coneflower blooms between July and September, while yellow coneflower blooms from July to October. Watering regularly and removing wilted flowers supports growth.
Care during the flowering period
During flowering, the coneflower can be watered regularly as long as it is not raining. Cutting off withered flowers also promotes the formation of new flowers. Perennials planted in autumn usually bloom more luxuriantly than those planted in spring.
Coneflower as a cut plant
Coneflower is definitely suitable as a cut flower. The high coneflower (Rudbeckia nitida) in particular stands out here with a particularly long shelf life of several weeks. The unsightly hanging flower tongues of the Echinacea have now been bred away from some varieties.
