The cylinder cleaners are expensive to buy. Of course, you want the plant to stay he althy for many years and bloom happily with its bottlebrush-like flowers. When dried leaves suddenly appear, there is great anger and concern for the existence of this subtropical plant grows.
What to do if the cylinder cleaner has dried up?
In the case of dry cylinder cleaners, the cause can be a lack of water, too dry room air or a root-filled pot. For ideal care: keep the soil moist, use low-lime water, humidify the room air and repot if necessary.
Often in conjunction with a lack of flowering
Dried leaves often appear in combination with a missing flower. If the leaves dry out, the flowers wither prematurely or do not even emerge. The plant lacks vigor. This tragedy is not very attractive. But what’s behind it?
Is the water supply correct?
The main reason why the leaves of the callistemon can dry out is a lack of water in the root area. The leathery foliage requires plenty of water all year round. It is evergreen and must be able to absorb enough moisture through its roots even in winter.
Pay particular attention to the following aspects:
- keep the soil well moist in summer
- water regularly in winter so that the soil does not dry out completely
- Ensure drainage in the pot
- drain excess water in the saucer
- use only low-lime water
Look at the roots
Do you water your callistemon regularly and the plant still dries out? This could be due to a pot that is too heavily rooted. Remove the cylinder cleaner from the pot if it has been a long time since it was repotted. If the pot is heavily rooted and there is hardly any soil, it is difficult to store water. In this case, repot the plant and give it fresh soil!
Is the room air sufficiently humid?
Even if the water supply in the root area is correct, air that is too dry can harm the cylinder brush and cause it to dry out - at least on the leaves. Spray your plant with water every few days, set up an indoor fountain (€99.00 on Amazon) or place bowls filled with water on the radiator.
Tip
Dried leaves and flowers do not necessarily have to be cut off. As a rule, the cylinder cleaner cleans itself of its dried leaves and old flowers.
