The common golden nettle (Lamium galeobdolon) is closely related to the other dead nettles, which also belong to the mint family, such as the white dead nettle (Lamium album) and the spotted dead nettle (Lamium maculatum). Like these, the golden nettle also blooms in summer.

The golden nettle, which reproduces very quickly and covers the ground thanks to its runners, begins to flower as soon as the flowering period of the last spring flowers comes to an end. Depending on the location and weather conditions, Lamium galeobdolon blooms from April / May until late summer. The flowering period usually ends between July and August. Golden nettles can have golden yellow to pale yellow flowers, which is why some authors assign them to different subspecies due to the different flower colors. However, this classification is controversial.
