Whether as a standard tree or a shrub, fuchsias are among the most popular ornamental plants, and not just in German gardens. The plant owes this not only to the striking, characteristic shape and colorfulness of its flowers, but also to its extremely long flowering period. However, you have to do a lot to ensure abundant blooms - fuchsias are not necessarily easy to care for.
When are fuchsias blooming?
The flowering period of fuchsias usually extends from June to autumn, sometimes even until November or December. To promote long and abundant flowering, fuchsias require regular fertilization, adequate watering, a bright location and occasional misting to increase humidity.
Fuchsias are permanent bloomers
Most fuchsia species bloom from June throughout the summer, often well into autumn - if the weather and mild temperatures are right, even into November and December. Well-cared for indoor fuchsias often show their blooms all year round.
The right care for a long flowering period
However, the demanding plants usually do not bloom “just like that” - they need regular fertilization, lots of water - but not too much - and should also be cut.
- Fertilize fuchsias with a liquid flowering plant fertilizer (€13.00 on Amazon) - preferably more often, but less.
- Fuchsias love it moist, but not wet. Water regularly and avoid waterlogging.
- High humidity is also important: spray the plants all over with water from time to time.
- The location should be bright, but not full sun.
Tip
As a rule of thumb, the brighter the flowers are, the more sun fuchsias can tolerate.
