Buying plants is not necessarily the best solution for garden lovers; after all, growing them is fun and you can also be proud of your own achievements. The edible Cosmea is ideal for this project because it is easy to prepare.
How do I prefer Cosmea correctly?
To grow Cosmea successfully, sow thinly on a nutrient-poor substrate, cover lightly, moisten with water spray, keep evenly moist, germination temperature of approx. Maintain 20°C, germination time is around 14-21 days, prick out at 8-10 cm in size and plant outdoors after the ice saints.
If the jewelry basket feels comfortable in its location, then it will express itself there. This shows how easily the seeds germinate, even without special preparation. If you would like to take the sowing into your own hands, collect the ripe seeds during or after the flowering period. After removing them, dry the seeds. Then keep them dry and dark until sowing.
Sowing the Cosmea
Sow the fine Cosmea seeds on nutrient-poor substrate or soil mixed with sand and only cover the seeds thinly with soil or substrate. To moisten it, it is best to use a water sprayer (€27.00 on Amazon) so that neither soil nor seeds are washed away.
The seeds should be kept evenly moist throughout the entire germination period of 14 - 21 days. The temperature should also remain relatively constant and not fall below 20 °C. This is easier to achieve if you stretch a transparent film over the growing container. To prevent mold from forming, open the film regularly.
Planting out the Cosmea
When the seedlings are around 8 - 10 cm tall, they are pricked out. However, the soil used should still be low in nutrients. Only after the Ice Saints in May can the young cosmeas be planted in the garden.
