Gazania, which originally comes from South Africa, is not hardy here but is definitely perennial. The Sonnentaler, one of the German names for this decorative plant, is often found in stores as an annual summer flower.
How do I overwinter Gazania correctly?
In order to overwinter Gazania successfully, they should be placed in a bright, frost-free winter quarters at 5 to 10°C. Fertilization is not necessary, watering is minimal. Harden off during the day from April and plant out again after the Ice Saints.
Buying new Gazania every year benefits trade, but not your wallet. That's why you should overwinter your plants. In autumn, place the Mittagsgold in a suitable plant pot and place it in a bright and frost-free place. Ideally, the temperature in the winter quarters is between 5 and 10 °C. In winter you only need to water the gazania a little and don't fertilize it at all. From April onwards, put the plants outside during the day.
