Climbing roses are true beautifiers, as with their strong growth and magical sea of flowers they create a wonderful, fragrant oasis even from the ugliest corner of the garden.
Which climbing rose is hardy?
Winter-hardy and robust climbing roses are recommended with the ADR seal. Particularly resistant varieties are Aloha, Amadeus, Amaretto, Facadezauber, Golden Gate, Guirlande d'Amour, Jasmina, Kir Royal, Laguna, Momo, Rosanna and Rosarium Uetersen. They bloom from June to September and reach heights of between 250 and 300 cm.
Also protect hardy climbing roses in winter
Basically all climbing rose varieties are more or less hardy, although some are significantly more robust than others. You can recognize particularly robust (and therefore recommended) varieties by the ADR seal, the symbol for the so-called “Rosen-TÜV”. Although many hardy varieties basically do not require any special winter protection, elementary measures such as piling up and covering with jute (€13.00 on Amazon) or similar materials are still useful in particularly cold winters and can protect the plants from large ones Prevent damage.
The most robust climbing rose varieties
The Dresden-based Saxon State Institute for Agriculture tested a total of 76 different climbing rose varieties for their robustness and frost hardiness in a four-year trial. The following varieties, including not only ADR roses, have been marked as particularly recommended due to their winter hardiness and resistance to diseases.

Climbing roses cultivated in pots should of course - regardless of the variety - be well wrapped up against frost and ideally placed on a base made of wood or Styrofoam.
