Pitcher plants (Nepenthes) must never dry out completely. Regular watering and an increase in humidity are therefore necessary. However, there are a few things to consider when watering carnivorous plants.
How should you properly water a pitcher plant?
Water your pitcher plant (Nepenthes) regularly with rainwater by pouring the water into a saucer on which the planter stands. Avoid waterlogging and never allow the substrate to dry out completely. In winter the plant needs less water and lower humidity.
Water enough, but avoid waterlogging
The pitcher plant's substrate must never dry out completely. Therefore, water the plant regularly, especially in summer. Rainwater is best suited. If necessary, you can also use distilled water or boiled tap water.
If possible, avoid watering directly onto the substrate or leaves of the plant. It is best if you place the planter on a saucer and fill it with water.
Nepenthes needs less water in winter. The humidity no longer has to be quite as high.
Tip
If the pitcher plant no longer forms new pitchers, it may be because the location is too dark. However, too low humidity may also be responsible for this. Most pitcher plant species prefer a humidity of at least 60 percent.
