How to overwinter palm trees outdoors?

To overwinter palm trees outdoors, you should use light, medium or very good winter protection, depending on the degree of cold. This includes tying the leaves together, layers of mulch, plant fleece, jute mats or a temporary greenhouse with a fan heater.

Light winter protection

In very mild areas, it is sufficient to tie up the leaves of frost-resistant palm trees and protect the roots from frost with a thick layer of mulch.

Medium winter protection

In the case of higher temperatures below zero or with hardy palm plants that are planted in slightly cooler regions in the garden, it is recommended to additionally wrap the plant with a special plant fleece or jute mats.

Very good winter protection

This is recommended wherever the palm tree standing outside would be exposed to severe frosts. A temporary greenhouse that you can build yourself inexpensively out of wood and foil is ideal.

Tip
