Propagating a money tree is incredibly easy. All you need is a cutting of the plant. A new money tree can even be grown from a single leaf or parts of a leaf. How to Propagate Money Trees from Cuttings.
How do you grow a money tree from a cutting?
A money tree cutting can be grown by cutting a 10-12 cm long top cutting, removing the lower leaves and planting in planting substrate. For root formation, the cutting should be kept bright, warm and moist, but not exposed to direct sunlight.
Pulling a money tree from a cutting
- Cut cuttings
- remove lower leaves
- Let the interface dry
- Put cutting in soil
- keep moist
- make bright
- continue maintenance as normal later
To propagate, cut a head cutting about ten to twelve centimeters long in the spring. Remove the lower leaves and place in prepared pots with planting substrate.
Place the pot in a very bright, warm place. However, you should avoid direct sunlight. Keep the soil moist but not too wet.
New roots form within a few weeks. Continue to care for the cutting as you would an adult plant. As soon as roots have appeared, you can place the money tree directly in the sun.
Place the cutting in the water glass
After cutting, you can also place the cutting in a glass of water. This has the advantage that you can see whether roots have developed.
Once the roots are two to three centimeters long, plant the cutting in a prepared pot.
The disadvantage of this method is that the roots are very sensitive and break quickly due to the pressure of the substrate. You must be very careful when planting.
Money trees can also be propagated from leaves
You can also grow a new money tree from leaf cuttings. All you need is a sheet that you can even cut up.
Fill a pot with substrate. Place the leaf or leaf parts on the soil and press them lightly.
Keep the surface slightly moist and place the leaf cutting in a warm, very bright place without direct sunlight. In this way, too, new roots develop within a few weeks. The leaf cutting is repotted as soon as the new plant has formed at least three pairs of leaves.
Tip
Caring for a money tree is considered moderately difficult, but it is quite forgiving of small care mistakes. It is important that you do not water it too often and that you fertilize sparingly.
