The yucca or palm lily is true - which, by the way, is not a palm tree, but a type of agave! – as quite robust, but like any other living being, it can also get sick. The most common pathogens on houseplants include fungi, although powdery mildew only appears very rarely on the yucca. However, a very similar appearance is caused by a very specific pest.

How do you control powdery mildew on yucca plants?

To combat powdery mildew on yucca plants, a whole milk and water mixture can be used. Affected leaves should be wiped with a clean cloth and the mixture. If the infestation is severe, it is advisable to remove and dispose of infected plant parts.

Mildew or gall mites?

If your yucca actually suffers from powdery mildew, the coating can usually be quickly removed with a clean cloth and a little milk water. A whole milk and water mixture helps against powdery mildew, although you should only use fresh milk - the bacteria it contains reliably kill the mildew spores. In the case of a severe infestation, in many cases only scissors can help, as these parts of the plant should be removed and disposed of immediately. But be careful: a white, wipeable coating does not always indicate mildew - gall mites can also be behind it. The gall mites found on yucca plants do not form galls, but rather sit individually on the leaves.

Tip

Yucca plants often suffer from powdery mildew if the location is unsuitable.
