How much does a green roof for a garage cost?
The costs for greening a garage roof vary between €400 and several thousand euros, depending on the size and type of greenery. Extensive green roofs, which are more suitable for garage roofs, cost an average of €50 per square meter including materials.
Extensive versus intensive green roofs
In principle, there are two different types of green roofs. With extensive green roofs, layers with a thickness of 6 to 20cm are used, while with intensive green roofs, layers of up to 40cm are applied to the roof. This has two consequences: On the one hand, with intensive green roofs, significantly taller plants (even small trees) can be planted, whose roots reach deeper and therefore require more soil, and on the other hand, this - and the size of the plants - results in a significantly higher weight up to 1000 or more kilograms per square meter. Since a garage roof is usually not designed for such a weight, you should choose an extensive variant when it comes to greening the roof of your garage. These are also significantly cheaper.
