A round bed on a green lawn looks like a colorful oasis. Filled-in ponds are often converted into round beds. There are many different options for planting. Below we share with you the most beautiful ideas on how you can plant your round bed.
How can you plant and design a round bed?
A round bed can be planted with herbs, vegetables or flowers. For large round beds, a central tree or bush is recommended, surrounded by perennials or flowers arranged in a ring. Geometric arrangements and matching borders made of natural stones or plants ensure a harmonious overall picture.
The most beautiful ideas for the round bed
Depending on the size of the round bed, there are various options for planting. For example, you can create smaller round beds whose center you can reach from the outside:
- plant with herbs
- build a hill bed and plant vegetables
- create a round raised bed or tiered bed and grow vegetables, for example
For larger round beds, the classic solution with small trees, bushes and flowers is more suitable.
The classic round bed with a tree or bush
Especially with larger round beds, it makes sense to put a larger tree or bush in the middle. You can now place perennials, flowers or trees of different sizes around this in rings, making sure that the inner rings should always accommodate larger plants than the outer ones. Alternatively, you can plant plants of the same size around the trunk of the tree or bush in the middle.
Plant the round bed geometrically precisely
If you like things tidy, you can plant the plants in the round bed at exactly the same distances. Proceed as follows:
- Plant the tree or shrub in the center
- Now attach four, six or eight strips to the foot of the trunk, depending on the size of the round bed, and pull them straight away from the trunk in all directions so that four, six or eight quadrants of the same size are created.
- Draw the lines with a hoe (€139.00 on Amazon) or a spade. If you want to preserve the division, you can also mark it with gravel, mulch or even plants.
- Now plant the same number of plants in each quadrant.
- If you want to be even more precise, you can also use stripping to divide the individual quadrants into several parts.
The border of the round bed
Various materials are available for edging the round bed:
- Plants, e.g. low bushes as a natural demarcation
- Natural stones
- Paving stones
- Planting stones
- Palisades
- Pebbles
You can also do without the border completely, but then you have to cut the lawn edges every now and then so that the round bed is not overgrown by grass.
Tip
When planting your round bed, pay attention to the location requirements of the plants!
