The buddleia is considered an extremely undemanding shrub that thrives in almost any soil - however, the prerequisite is that it is sunny enough and the soil is loose and permeable. However, if the plant develops yellow leaves, this is an unmistakable sign that it is unwell. However, these can have different causes.
Why does my buddleia have yellow leaves and what can I do?
Yellow leaves on buddleia can be caused by waterlogging, a location that is too dark or a lack of nutrients. To solve the problem, check the condition of the soil, place the shrub in a sunny location or provide it with sufficient nutrients such as compost, horn shavings (€52.00 on Amazon) and manure.
Yellow leaves on buddleia and what you can do about it
The buddleia, which is actually quite robust, gets yellow leaves when it doesn't like the soil, the location or the care. Don't make the mistake of watering the shrub because you think it's dry - you're more likely to kill it. Instead, one or even more of the following reasons are more likely:
- Waterlogging – often due to soil that is too heavy. This is what you can do: dig up and move lilacs or improve the soil with sand and grit.
- Location too dark - Buddleia needs a lot of sun and warmth, which is why it quickly turns yellow leaves in a location that is too dark. In this case, only moving helps.
