Tree slices that are left over from sawing a tree or that you can get from a sawmill can be used as wall decorations both indoors and outdoors. But how can the wooden discs be securely attached?
How do I attach a tree disc to the wall?
To attach a tree disc to the wall, use large screws with dowels, pre-drill screw holes, countersink the screw head and cover it with wood paint. Alternatively, you can use mounting adhesive or picture hooks.
What options are there to attach a tree disk to the wall?
There are various options for attaching a tree disc to the house or room wall. Depending on how thick and heavy the slice is, you can proceed as follows:
- Drill a large screw with a washer through the tree disk and fasten it in the wall with the appropriate dowel
- Sink screw head and cover with wood paint
- alternatively make it disappear under decorative elements or a coat hook
- drill thick panes at the back (do not drill through!) and dowel them
- alternatively, drill from behind and attach to the wall with picture hooks
- stick to the wall with mounting adhesive
Please note that large and heavy tree discs must be secured with large screws and dowels so that the structure holds and does not come down again at the next opportunity. Assembly adhesive is very stable, but not reversible: If you want to remove a tree slice that has been stuck on, you will then have to re-paper or plaster the wall.
How can you create a pretty wall decoration out of tree slices?
You can use the tree slices “naked” as decoration or design them in different ways. There are countless possibilities for this:
- Tree disk coat rack: Tree disk equipped with coat hooks
- painting or painting: tree slices are ideal as a painting surface, especially for motifs from nature (flowers, birds and other animals, landscapes)
- stick: Decorate the tree disc with different materials, for example with small stones, sand, feathers, moss, dried flowers
- as a base: use the tree disc as a fastening aid for a birdhouse or a fairy or gnome house
- convert into an insect hotel
It is also a nice idea to attach a piece of debarked branch or similar horizontally to the tree disc and then decorate it with living epiphytes (e.g. an orchid) and moss.
Can tree slices also be used for wall cladding?
Do you have several or even a lot of tree discs and are you thinking about covering an entire wall or part of a wall with them? For example, unsightly concrete walls or walls can be attractively clad. You have these options:
- Attach tree slices individually to the wall with mounting adhesive
- Dowel a large board to the wall and stick tree slices on it
- Advantage: can be quickly removed if necessary
- alternatively use wooden grid or similar as a mounting base
Make sure that the wooden cladding should be treated with a weatherproof wood paint or glaze when used outdoors.
Tip
Always pre-drill tree slices
In addition, you should not nail wooden discs, but rather pre-drill screw holes: This prevents unsightly stress cracks from forming in the wood.
