Which soil is suitable for thuja hedges?
Slightly humus-rich, water-storing, water-permeable and not too acidic soil is suitable for thuja hedges. Normal garden soil enriched with compost (€12.00 on Amazon), horn shavings or seasoned manure is usually sufficient. Avoid waterlogging and do not over-fertilize.

Normal garden soil is sufficient in most cases as long as it is not too sandy or too firm. It is enriched with compost (€12.00 on Amazon), horn shavings or seasoned manure. Then you don't have to fertilize at all or only a little in the first few years.
It is important that the soil is always slightly moist, but under no circumstances should waterlogging develop. Too much water in the soil causes root rot. If necessary, create drainage in the ground.
Tip
Caution is advised when fertilizing thuja, as the tree of life is easily over-fertilized, especially with mineral fertilizers. Organic fertilizers such as compost, manure and horn shavings are more suitable.
