When does wisteria sprout?
Wisteria sprouts in May with light leaves that darken over time. Depending on the climate, the flowers appear in April or May and can bloom into the summer, even after radical pruning or slight frostbite.

In May, the wisteria sprouts its new leaves. They are usually quite light. Sometimes it appears that the leaves are turning yellow due to chlorosis, but most of the time there is no reason to worry. Over time the leaves darken. Only if this does not happen should you investigate the cause of the illness.
The emergence of the flowers
The flowers of a wisteria appear in April or May, depending on the weather and climate. Then the flowering period lasts until summer. There is often a second bloom at the end of summer that is not as impressive as the first. You can encourage the buds to sprout by lightly pruning. However, wisteria takes a few years before it even begins to bloom.
Will a frozen wisteria sprout again?
The above-ground parts of the wisteria, especially young shoots and/or buds, can freeze over during a prolonged period of frost. As a rule, wisteria sprouts again in spring without any problems. However, things look different when the roots freeze. But this only rarely happens, at most when planting in a container.
For this reason, wisteria in a pot needs special winter protection so that frost cannot reach the roots. Either overwinter the plant in a cold greenhouse (€49.00 on Amazon), in the garage or a cool basement room, or you can wrap the pot with an old blanket, jute sacks or fleece.
